CARE FOR YOUR SHEARLING GARMENT:
HOW TO CARE WHEN WET?
Shearling garments are often worn in snow or light drizzle.
Shearling or leather should not be worn in heavy rain! If
unintentionally caught in a downpour, dry the garment with
a towel and allow it to naturally dry at room temperature,
away from any heat source. After drying, use a suede brush
on the suede side and a gentle steel comb on the hair side.
Even better or at anytime - you have any doubt bring for special
care at a fur and shearling specialist you trust.
PRESSING AND IRONING:
Press on the suede side only. Most wrinkles will fall out
when left in a steamy bathroom. When pressing, use a dry iron
set at a low temperature, with a brown wrapping paper used
as a pressing cloth. Press lightly and quickly to prevent
overheating and shine. If any doubt bring to your trusted
fur and shearling specialist. SUMMER STORAGE: Best to store
your shearlings and furs at a furrier's climate and humidity
controlled vault - if available in your area. Preserve the
shape of your garment while in your closet, by using a wide
padded hanger to keep your garments shoulders and shape intact.
Do not crash, crowd or otherwise It is preferable to keep
removable shoulder pads in garments, when hanging a garment.
Never cover the garment in plastic or other nylons - store
shearlings and furs in an airy cloth garment bag in a dust
free, ventilated closet, away from moths and mites.
DIRT REMOVAL, SOIL AND STAIN
CARE:
Treat your shearlings with organic stain repellent spray -
if available at the fur and shearling specialist near you.
Verify that such process will not discolor or stiffen your
garment, before it is applied. It is best to trust only a
specialist to clean conditin and attempt to remove stains.
If you must do it yourself note that many stains can be removed
with chalk dust if treated immediately. Using regular white
blackboard chalk, make a pile of dust on the stain by scraping
the chalk stick with a knife edge. Allow the dust to remain
on the stain overnight, then brush off with a suede brush
DRY CLEANING Dry cleaning of shearling garments is not recommended.
Trust your shearlings or furs and have them cleaned and conditioned
only by a professional fur and shearling cleaner - specializing
in shearlings. Always try to identify to the cleaner, the
source of the stain .
Be sure to have
proper annual care including cleaning. This process replenishes
essential oils necessary for the longevity of your Shearlings
and Sheepskins coat. Mend any small tears immediately. Often
times delaying a repair can lead to an expensive replacement
of complete Shearlings and Sheepskins pelts.
